Peter said that Christians are "aliens and strangers in the world." (1Pe. 2:11) As Christians, we are in the business of sticking out like sore thumbs. Our ideas are laughed at. Our Savior is slandered by the words of unbelievers. In many parts of the world, we are killed, only for saying that we believe in the Son of God. Even here in America, a young woman was recently killed for saying she loved Jesus, in the Littleton, CO tragedy. Although martyrs in America are few and far between, American Christians are under ever-growing persecution. The world would like us to conform.
It is "politically incorrect" to take a stand against abortion, homosexuality, and assisted suicide. We are told that we are wrong for believing that Jesus is the only way to heaven, even though Christ himself said that he was THE way, THE truth, and THE life. And, we are taught in school that life on Earth originated by accident, not by Divine Creation. You want to get some strange looks? Tell your science teacher you believe the Earth is 6,000 years old.
But, fellow Christians and Creationists, we are not called to be popular; we are called to be Biblical. And the Bible says that we are to stand up for Jesus, and that includes in the classroom. Despite what most science teachers and college professors say, the Earth, the Universe is only a few thousand years old. God really did create everything in six days. There is evidence to prove this. This evidence is often ignored by evolutionists so that they can continue to teach what they will. But despite what others teach, we as Christians know that God is stronger than any theory or speculation.
I am reminded of the story of Elijah and the 450 Prophets of Baal. In 1 Kings 18, we are told that Elijah was the last prophet of God among the Jews. Every other prophet had gone to worship other gods, particularly Baal. Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a spiritual dual. Elijah said:
"Get two bulls for us. Let them choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire- he is God." 1 Kings 18:23-24
The prophets of Baal set up their offer and called on Baal to light the fire. For hours they cried out to their god, but with no success. They even cut themselves out of desparation, but still their "god" did not listen. Then Elijah set his bull on a stack of wood, and dug a deep trench around the altar. He then had the people pour water on the sacrifice and the wood until the water filled the trench he had dug. Elijah called out to God, and instantly fire came down from heaven and "burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench." (1 Kings 18:38)
Fellow Creationists, we are like Elijah. Although the prophets of evolution make wild claims, they cannot make life come from nothing. If we stand up against evolutionary thinking and challenge them to bring forth their evidence, they will see that the Lord was right after all. My fellow believers in Christ, do not be frightened by the shear number of people who insist that our world is nothing but an accident, for all it takes is one person standing up for the truth to change the world. God has given us everything we need to prove evolution wrong. We need only to step out in faith, challenge the theory of evolution, and God will use our sacrifice to set the world ablaze for Jesus Christ.
